Steorn Demo

Monday, December 14, 2009

Steorn demo is seemingly fast approaching.

My OS colleague Hugh has posted the following on his blog and again for the sake of consistency I agree with his sentiment.

"We've been told for sure now that the DEMO which signals the start of the STEORN Orbo launch will start in the next few days."

Meanwhile the Steorn ad continues to grow in popularity as it quite rightly pokes fun at all the people and online debunking rags who have been talking down the technology while never having touched it or even remotely understood it's method of operation.

Are we now so utterly sure of ourselves as a species that we don't even dare discuss new advances for fear our world will come crashing down. Isn't science supposed to be scientific in it's approach and should it not welcome advances?  If the answer is no then we need to redefine the term science and we need to question why we fund it with tax dollars.

Finally I agree with you on something. The only constant is change. Still, I want to SEE it before I believe it. Then I want to reduce it to pieces and poke at it...

You gotta love the quotes that Steorn put around the word 'jury' on their new video. Scientific 'Jury'... a passing Martian would be forgiven for thinking that Steorn had had nothing to do with the jury, that it had been set up independently by the scientific community on its own initiative.

I posted some time ago, under Anonymous, and you were kind enough to reply and call me a "true skeptic". Now I'm posting under my own name. Still skeptic to the core, though.

"Isn't science supposed to be scientific in it's approach and should it not welcome advances?"

And what is so scientific about having everything under wraps, with delay after delay, with the only thing we here is, "It will all be shown soon!!!"? Science is scepticism at its heart, and until ANYONE can play and poke and investigate the evidence, you will always have sceptics.

How is that even hard to understand!!!

Don't knock science, as its science that is on the side of reason. Otherwise all you get is homoeopathy, astrology and religion.....

It's up and running this morning in the Waterways building and I've been looking at the live stream for the past hour. There appear to be three running Orbos. Now, why doesn't Steorn ship three more examples to the physics departments in TCD, DCU and UCD and let them figure out what is going on? I'm delighted to see the demo running (big advance on the Kinetica fiasco) but I can't draw any conclusions from what I'm seeing.
