Cold Fusion Stigma Still Exists

After all this time it's a bit infantile to see that there is still a stigma around the use of the term cold fusion. Did the Pons and Fleischmann excperience really scar everyone so badly?

 "Serious" researchers now opt for the term LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions), or CALENR (Chemically Assisted Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) and variations thereof.

Top prize though in the "Avoid using cold fusion terminology awards." simply must to go to National Instruments who've went one better than everyone with the ever so cautious and conservative label - "Anomalous Heat Generation" seen in their latest slide show presentation.

Waiting for Godot

We took a decision over a month ago now to cease reporting of the eCat for several reasons. 

First of all, 16 months have elapsed since we helped break the story to the world and yet there are still no independent third party test results of the eCat.  This is a very disappointing situation in view of the intitial timescales to commercial launch that were originally given.

There can be no doubt that many very qulaified individuals have been present and witnessed eCat tests - however, despite the optimism felt for the commercial realisation of such a revolutionary technology, the fact remains that in the absense of independent third party verification the eCat's claimed power output remains heresay at this point. There can be no doubt that Nickel Hydrogen reactions do produce anomalous heat, but the question remains over the power figures claimed.

So what do we mean by third party tests?  Essentially - this refers to testing in a laboratory environment by a reputable third party testing company such as Underwriters Laboratories or similar.  The tests would be made when no current member of the eCat team was present in the room and would include several test runs with controls in place.  These tests would be conducted over several weeks ideally to reach a conclusive result.

It is not fair on the readers of Free Energy Truth that we report daily unsubstantiated rumours of  "he said" "she said" hearsay.

Should independent collaborations or verifiable developments / testing occur then we will resume coverage.  Our eCatNow site contains feeds of all the relevant "he said" she said" developments on the eCat which you are still welcome to follow.

Defkalion have went silent, so there is nothing to report that can be substantiated or verified.  However, the fact they have went silent is a good sign of their professionalism and their resisting the sensationalist  rumour mill.

It's hard to imagine a scenario where both Defkalion and the eCat are both nothing but hot air and harder still to see how anyone hopes to make serious money unless they have a legitimate product to sell.

As it turns out our decision to cease reporting was a good one. News on both of these potential game-changers has been deathly quiet for nearly 2 months.

While behind-the-scenes developments are reported to be happening in both camps, only time will tell when and if one or both reach a commercially viable status.

Defkalion: We Invite Independent Testing

Defkalion lays down the gauntlet with an invitation for indepenedent testing of it's Hyperion LENR reactors.

They predict that a COP of 20 or more will be determined by the independent testers.

In a lengthy statement outlining the testing methods Defkalion stated "PDGT welcomes further requests from internationally recognized and reputable scientific and business organizations interested to conduct their independent tests on “bare” Hyperion Reactors."

New Announcement Of Testing

According to Defkalion, this particular invitation to test is entirely separate from the independent testing ALREADY scheduled to occur in the early part of 2012. "As it was announced in our November 30th Press Release, a series of third party tests on Hyperion products have been scheduled to be performed within the first months of 2012, immediately after our product’s certification. This announcement does not refer to such product tests."

Obama State Of The Union: "Clean Energy Industry Never Been So Promising"

In President Obama's State Of The Union speech which has just been aired, Obama described a "clean energy industry that's never been more promising".

In obvious reference to the control and supply of Iranian oil he looked to the future energy needs for the US "A future where we're in control of our own energy, and our security and prosperity aren't so tied to unstable parts of the world".

As well as natural gas and other conventional energy, Obama made a commitment to dump oil company subsidies and proceed towards a clean energy future.

"We have subsidized oil companies for a century. That's long enough. It's time to end the taxpayer giveaways to an industry that's rarely been more profitable, and double-down on a clean energy industry that's never been more promising." - President Obama

Nowhere is the promise of innovation greater than in American-made energy. Over the last three years, we've opened millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration, and tonight, I'm directing my Administration to open more than 75 percent of our potential offshore oil and gas resources. Right now, American oil production is the highest that it's been in eight years. That's right - eight years. Not only that - last year, we relied less on foreign oil than in any of the past sixteen years.

But with only 2 percent of the world's oil reserves, oil isn't enough. This country needs an all-out, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy - a strategy that's cleaner, cheaper, and full of new jobs.

We have a supply of natural gas that can last America nearly one hundred years, and my Administration will take every possible action to safely develop this energy. Experts believe this will support more than 600,000 jobs by the end of the decade. And I'm requiring all companies that drill for gas on public lands to disclose the chemicals they use. America will develop this resource without putting the health and safety of our citizens at risk.

The development of natural gas will create jobs and power trucks and factories that are cleaner and cheaper, proving that we don't have to choose between our environment and our economy. And by the way, it was public research dollars, over the course of thirty years, that helped develop the technologies to extract all this natural gas out of shale rock - reminding us that Government support is critical in helping businesses get new energy ideas off the ground.

What's true for natural gas is true for clean energy. In three years, our partnership with the private sector has already positioned America to be the world's leading manufacturer of high-tech batteries. Because of federal investments, renewable energy use has nearly doubled. And thousands of Americans have jobs because of it.
When Bryan Ritterby was laid off from his job making furniture, he said he worried that at 55, no one would give him a second chance. But he found work at Energetx, a wind turbine manufacturer in Michigan. Before the recession, the factory only made luxury yachts. Today, it's hiring workers like Bryan, who said, "I'm proud to be working in the industry of the future."

Our experience with shale gas shows us that the payoffs on these public investments don't always come right away. Some technologies don't pan out; some companies fail. But I will not walk away from the promise of clean energy. I will not walk away from workers like Bryan. I will not cede the wind or solar or battery industry to China or Germany because we refuse to make the same commitment here. We have subsidized oil companies for a century. That's long enough. It's time to end the taxpayer giveaways to an industry that's rarely been more profitable, and double-down on a clean energy industry that's never been more promising. Pass clean energy tax credits and create these jobs. 

We can also spur energy innovation with new incentives. "The differences in this chamber may be too deep right now to pass a comprehensive plan to fight climate change. But there's no reason why Congress shouldn't at least set a clean energy standard that creates a market for innovation. So far, you haven't acted. Well tonight, I will. I'm directing my Administration to allow the development of clean energy on enough public land to power three million homes. And I'm proud to announce that the Department of Defense, the world's largest consumer of energy, will make one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history - with the Navy purchasing enough capacity to power a quarter of a million homes a year".

Reading between the lines, Obama has clearly been briefed on the fact that LENR is rapidly coming of age as a replacement for polluting energy sources such as oil, coal and traditional nuclear power. This is the biggest signal yet from the US administration that we are moving to a new era of clean energy where oil subsidies are gone and replaced with incentives for clean energy developments.

Energy from LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) although not directly referenced in the speech, will no doubt form one of the core clean energy technologies for the future. This speech (just like the recent Zawodny NASA video) is just another part of the drip feeding process, preparing the public for the inevitable transition to LENR.

LENR - Low Energy Negative Reports

Will Andrea Rossi's eCat prove to be the real thing to take the world by storm or will it be revealed that it was all an elaborate hoax? One person who thinks that Rossi does not have the goods is Steven Krivit, Editor of New Energy Times.

From January 14th when Rossi conducted his first public tests in Bologna until midway through June New Energy Times editor Krivit made a total of 16 posts on Andrea Rossi and his eCat, almost all of them benign scepticism.

Krivit then personally met with Rossi in Bologna, was totally unimpressed with what he saw and then presented his findings in a series of blog reports and that seemed to be the start of the hostilities between the two.

On 17th June Rossi retaliated and called Krivit a "SNAKE" and a "FAKE JOURNALIST" on his blog. Krivit said nothing and remained silent for a couple of days before writing, "I may continue to read some of his interesting messages for a little while longer, but not much longer. Research and interviews are over. The pen now hits the ink."

Since then, at least since June 16th 2011, New Energy Times writer Steven B Krivit had written a total of 41 separate blog posts in condemnation of the ecat and Rossi's credibility, and has also taken aim at the credibility of those who Krivit claims are "promoting" Rossi or his eCat. That works out at approximatelty one post every 4 days.

All of this was in stark contrast to Krivit's early 2011 comments on Rossi and his eCat.

On 19th January he wrote:

"The report I received on Jan. 17 from Francesco Celani, a physicist with the Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare in Frascati, Italy (National Institute of Nuclear Physics), gives me new confidence about the Rossi-Focardi device. If the data provided to Celani is correct and complete, the device is real and is demonstrating some excess heat – on demand, no less."

"Rossi has, to his credit, answered all of my questions."

"As far as Rossi’s story of a self-sustaining reactor, I am inclined to believe it. It is very similar to a story that Piantelli told me."

Today, and through our company website, Praxen - Defkalion Green Technologies Global has disclosed its current work on Nickel and Hydrogen exothermic reaction using Chemically Assisted Low Energy Nuclear Reactions.

The provided Technical Specifications Sheet is a first preparation of our pre-industrial Hyperion product. This data has been tested with progress made towards the design of a final product ready for market entry in 2012.

Hyperion products will be introduced into the global market with applications for buildings, agriculture and industrial energy needs.

"Defkalion's scientific R&D team have successfully managed to trigger and monitor Chemically Assisted Low Energy Nuclear Reactions caused by Nickel and Hydrogen nuclei. Defkalion opened a new Discussion Thread in their forum.  Here are some of the first questions and answers:

Q: How quickly can the system come up to power? Also, how fast can it be turned down to idle mode?

A: Please indicate an example of configuration (single or multi-reactor, kW and maximum allowed temperature). We will consult our R&D to check tables and we will provide you with a precise answer the soonest. In general, the mean time to put a Hyperion from 0 to 100% of its capacity is 6,5min.

Continuous Operation

Q: Could you clarify how long the Hyperion can produce excess heat continuously ? Thanks.

A: As you can see in specs, for at least 6 months non-stop (for any reason).

Thermostat

A: In a secondary circuit sending heat to an environment, any typical thermostat can adjust the energy demand to Hyperion. Hyperion PLCs are monitoring on line the Delta on calorimetry in the prime circuit, auto-adjusting the production (opening/closing the reactor(s) accordingly)

Self Sustain

Q: Meta wrote:

In your nicely crafted report there are various modes of operation mentioned but a self sustain mode seems to be absent. Is self sustain possible under the currently developed control system? A: Hyperion is a system, not just a bare reactor. And the system uses pumps and electronics that need electric power in normal operations. So, there is not really a sustain mode in such systems.

PS Please notice also that we indicated COP for single or mult-reactor systems and not for bare reactors.

Price of Hyperions

Q: Can you give us an idea about hyperion's price list? (Products and annual services)

A: Indications on prices for the Greek market you can find in several publishes in Greek newspapers in Press Section of our site. In case you can not read Greek, this indication is 5.500euro per multi-reactor system (installed) and some hundreds of euros per year for recharge/support/service. Official price lists for local and international markets will be announced later.

Note: All multi-reactor systems will have the same selling price, regardless if they are of let us say 20 or 35 or 45 kW nominal power. In all cases, 9 reactors are in the kernel. Up to 4, 7 or 9 respectively in this examble, are allowed to operate concurrently by their setup. So the recharge period varies, as far as all 9 reactors may service the system following a balancing algorithm. So, recharging period is not always 6 months. It can be more as stated in specs.

Nickel Consumption

Q: This question, by a consumer point of view might probably be irrelevant since each six months (in single reactor units) the nickel charge and the hydrogen bottle get replaced completely, but I was wondering on a scientific point of view what is the consumption of Hydrogen and Nickel in grams for, let's say, a 10 kW unit continuously running at 100% power for six months? (or better and more generically, using a more proper unit of measure, in g/MWh) Could you also state how much Hydrogen and Nickel would such unit start up with?

Perhaps for Nickel a more correct word than consumption would be transmutation (assuming this is what happens in the reactor core, as with Rossi's). If you agree with this, could you tell how much of it, in the example above, gets transmuted after six months of use?

A: The most serious reason for a 6-12 months recharge of Hydrogen and Ni is not their consumption (or if you like the transmutation of Ni) but pure engineering reasons. Hyperions are quite new, so we will need to run diagnostics test for the kernel's peripherals in situ at least every six months in the first period, according to our present analysis of different components or subsystems and the service protocols. Later on, these protocols may change as we expect.

So, for your consumer point of view, we have to assure you that your Hyperion is properly monitored and cared, as we have to. For your scientific point of view of your questions, please note that less than 15gr of Ni are loaded in each reactors chamber during its production - Thank you

Exclusive Rights

It is interesting to note that references to Andrea Rossi's have been removed from their website with Defkalion now claiming full rights:

"Praxen Defkalion Green Technologies (Global) Ltd., is based in Cyprus. It owns full rights to its own technologies and will sell exclusive rights globally for the production of its proprietary products (Hyperion)."

Power

There appear to be two different kinds of prototype reactors being offered. A single reactor "kernel" of 5kW and a multi reactor kernel made from 9 reactors and capable of 10-45kW

Defkalion Spokesman: "“I Know What He’s Got in the Reactor, I Know Everything."

According to this new NY Teknik article the University Of Siena ran a spectroscopy of Rossi's eCat at some point and consequently it revealed to them the contents of the reactor, presumably revealing the secret catalyst which enables the Nickel Hydrogen to fuse.

"Let’s say I have the formula of Rossi, but I’m not saying it officially. My scientists found a way to make it. They need three months, but I’m not going to play game behind Rossi. I’m  not a cheater. We started together and if he has to be paid, he will. But his problem is scientifically solved by us.
Because we believe that his reactor cannot operate more than 24 hours.
When we requested 48 it was a problem. But my scientists found out the problems. I cannot reveal it right now. But the problem can be fixed by us. It’s very simple but they didn’t think about it. The same way more than a year ago when Rossi had never thought that his invention could create electricity. He had never thought about it until we told him."

"First of all, the first problem was with 48 hours, that’s for sure. And he had a huge fight with one of my scientists, Mr Hadjichristos, you’ve heard of him most probably, Yiannis, because we were insisting on 48 hours. But we know the problem; we didn’t tell him of course, we know the problem.
I know what he’s got in the reactor, I know everything. It was a spectroscopy (Greek: ‘fasmatoscopy’) made by the university of Siena. It was an equipment made by the University of Siena. It understands everything that’s inside the reactor. So we know the components."

Ny Teknik: Who did that?

"The University of Siena. They tried his reactor without him understanding what they did. They checked it and we know what’s in the reactor. So it’s a matter of two or three months that my scientists can reproduce that, but I’m not going to try it. I’m playing a fair game.

We solved the problem. The problems he’s got, we solved them. Because the problem is that he cannot spread the reaction all over the pipe, and all the heating is concentrated in the middle. So we found the solution."

In a very promising announcement on Rossi's blog today we have something very positive to look forward to - the public disclosure of a North Eastern USA based company who have purchased one of Rossi's 1MW ecat plants.

  How long do you think it will be before there is a 1MW customer that is willing to talk about their experiences with the product and act as a reference? Having another customer out there who is willing to act as a reference could provide tremendous leverage. This would be far more valuable than any public test. It would silence the skeptics forever.

Today we sold in the USA a 1 MW plant which will go to a normal Customer. This installation will be visitable by the qualified public. 

We wait to have completed the contractual procedure through the attorneys, then we will give communication. It will be in the North East of the USA, where I have been in these days.

eCat EXCLUSIVE: UK's DECC To "Maintain A Watch On This Sector" (LENR)

The UK Department Of Energy And Climate Change (DECC) Confirms It Is Monitoring The Situation With Andrea Rossi's eCat Cold Fusion Technology.

A few weeks ago Free Energy Truth made an enqiry to the UK Minister Chris Huhne - Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change to ask if his dept had heard of Andrea Rossi's eCat. DECC is the UK equivalent of the US Dept Of Energy (DoE).  We thought that the dept charged with looking after the UK's energy needs should be aware of this potentially revolutionary new clean energy technology. We received a very encouraging reply on behalf of DECC's (CSA) Chief Scientific Advisor - David MacKay FRS.

"DECC is aware of this alleged power source: the DECC CSA, David MacKay FRS, has read some of the literature and has met Sven Kulander, who has reviewed an experiment and whose report is on the Defkalion website. The CSA's judgment is that it is appropriate for DECC to maintain a watch on this sector, with the key trigger for further action being the publication of the work in a reputable peer-refereed journal, including full details so that academic scientists can replicate the results."

So to summarise, the UK equivalent of the US Dept of Energy is now keeping an active interest on developments in the new field of LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions). This is a major step forward for acceptance of these new clean energy technologies that could change our entire way of life. eCat: "Container Cat" Is Ready For Friday - Are You?

The big test coming up on Friday 28th is the absolute pinnacle of the eCat calender.  

Since early in January we've all been following the twists and turns of a rollercoaster story that has been both sublime, ridiculous and above all very entertaining. On Friday "Container Cat" as I have called it, will either make the history books by producing a Megawatt of thermal energy or will blow up like an over-microwaved rice pudding.

After a handful of tests some are utterly convinced and yet some are still holding out for independent testing.  It is true to say that the testing so far has lacked in-depth accuracy and scientific precision, but it is also apparent that something very odd and indeed special is happening when an eCat starts up.

If it were not for the fact it's true, the real life events of Rossi's eCat adventure would surely be the makings of a good fictional novel.



Secret Customer

The latest development is the mystery surrounding the customer who wishes to buy Rossi's 1MW plant.  Rossi has not said so, but presumably the customer does not just want one plant, but the rights to commercialize and manufacture hundreds, maybe thousands of plants.

The story so far from Rossi is that the customer is highly secretive and does not want their identity revealed to the public at large and that on the 28th the customers consultants and representatives will be there to make the required measurements required for proof that the ecat does exactly what it's supposed to - make enormous amounts of heat from an as yet unknown safe nuclear surface level reaction.

That's the story anyway, but let's delve a little deeper.

Why the secrecy?

What are the possible motivations for all the secrecy here?  Well, the first and (in my opinion) most unlikely reason is that the customer just doesn't want the hassle and publicity of having a connection to such a seemingly unlikely technology that would perhaps dent their carefully crafted credibility and image.

The most likely reason is that the company desperately wants to maintain a competitive market advantage and the only way to guarantee this is to show no apparent public interest in the ecat.

This approach could give them a very financially rewarding head start on the single biggest market opportunity of the century.  Trillions of dollars await the successful market leader who will be the first to properly conquer the newly emerging LENR energy sector.

Top TRENDS researcher Gerald Celente recently described the new wave of energy technologies that are poised to hit us as "The greatest investment opportunity of the 21rst century." Right now, Rossi's eCat is leading the field based on it's apparent market readiness. A beurocratic quicksand of safety certifications and approvals still stands in the way and must be negotiated before the proper adoption of this new primary energy source, but the rewards that await are utterly incalculable.

It recently emerged that Rossi's now soured deal with "divorced" former business partner
Defkalion Green Technologies was worth an astonishing 200 Million Euros in a single royalty payment. The on-sale of further plant licences (including blueprints and training) is confirmed by Defkalion as 40.5 Million Euros per 300,000 units produced. This would be ultimately dwarfed by the overall potential European eCat sales market, certain to be counted in the hundreds of Billions by year two and beyond.

There is another possibility for the customer's apparent desire for secrecy which leaves a
distinctly sour taste.  That is the possibility that the customer is of the military hardware variety and intends to use the eCat technology for combat / conflict operations.  It doesn't really need to be said that any army who can harness vast amounts of energy, which are highly portable and can be delivered into theatre operations quickly (in say, a shipping container) is a huge advantage.

Can the secrecy be maintained?

Although the customer does not want to be identified, it's representatives will be present to take measurements on Friday. However, they will not be alone.  Rossi has said that scientific journalists worthy of note will also be present along with a handful of other selected invitees.  Will those people be prevented from talking to the customer representatives?  Will balaclavas and voice morphing microphones be standard issue on the day? - I doubt it.

And what of Defkalion in all this?

Therein lies another crazy novel in itself.  Defkalion on one end with an apprently MORE market ready product and Rossi on the other claiming they haven't got a clue how to make an eCat reactor core?  Have Defkalion back engineered Rossi's eCat already? Are they bluffing? Or have they hooked up with LENR rival, Piantelli and have HIS technology at the heart of their Hyperion modules? It's a sticky mess of claims and counter claims and someone needs to clear it up.

The Rossi story started off quite simply, but every day this tale has been slowly aquiring more and more complexity. Trying to follow it, now requires a 6 month apprenticeship and the patience of a saint whos just been on a "How to Be More Patient" training course.

From secret customers, on / off partnerships, contradictory statements, to clowns, snakes, coffee machines and much argued over test results. On Friday, a successful run of "Container Cat" will hopefully put an end to the bickering.

As usual the supervision of the new test by a Nobel Physics Prize Winner is STILL not good enough for the drooling faceless pseudosceptics, who continue day after day to CONSTANTLY change the goal posts.  Looking at some of the crazy comments today on various blogs it was patently obvious that the pseudosceptics know they are going down.

Their preferred option would be for a shill or a dogma obsessed establishment defender to conduct the tests so that they can try and undermine it somehow. 

The latest video by Mats Lewan shows MASSIVE amounts of steam gushing from the eCat at a fantastic rate - and I couldn't help but notice this amazing piece of footage was conveniently ignored by the lunatic pseudosceptics.

Lunatics?  Why of course they are.  Who in their right mind would want to sabotage or harm the emergence of a new non-polluting energy technology? What type of person would go out of their way to twist and turn every piece of evidence into something it clearly isn't? The PRETENCE of FAKE concern for gullible investors (which is the usual bullshit we hear) cannot be cited in Rossi's case since he is entirely self-funded - so that particular avenue of pseudoscepticism was immediately closed down to them.  And another thing, what kind of complete moron would be even slightly concerned for a super rich investor they've NEVER EVEN MET losing money that he clearly doesn't mind putting down?

Well, the answer is that pseeudosceptics are hell-bent on preserving dogma AT ANY COST even when faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  A brilliant example right now is with the current "Neutrinos Faster Than Light Speed" story. It has been fascinating to watch the big establishment science publications squirm and writhe in agony trying to explain the unexplainable as one of the pillars of modern physics turns to jelly before their eyes.

And what will the pseudosceptics say when eCats go on the market?  What will they say when a BIG name player steps in to remove all doubt?  With nowhere to go the next plan of attack for the drooling lapdogs when finally beaten into submission by the truth will be to grudgingly admit it works, but to state that it is "unsafe" and "dangerous" and to pursue non-existent and false safety issues.

University Of Bologna Confirms Rossi E-Cat Research

Another Blow For Pseudoscepticks As The University Of Bologna Confirm They Will Study And Research The Rossi E-Catalyzer For 2 Years.  The Research Costs (500,000 EUROS) Will Be Entirely Paid For By Rossi Himself.

The Physics Department of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, wishes to communicate that:

• - A 24-month research contract for the amount of 500,000 euros (+VAT) has been signed with the firm EFA ltd., in order to perform research into the field of the energy production efficiency of apparatuses belonging to said firm;

• - Said research contract will become operative when the Department receives payment of the first scheduled installment;

• - Said research contract (an integral part of the program) will involve measurements of apparatus performance as well as possible improvements in performance.

Official information regarding the relevant research activity will be furnished solely and exclusively by the Physics Department, or by the Alma Mater Studiorum, to which the Department belongs.

New Scientific Leap: Steam Flow Rate YouTube Technology

History has shown us that ANY technological development where new scientific understanding is required ALWAYS meets with great levels of resistance. The Rossi e-Catalyzer is no different in that respect.

In the past week critics have been almost choking on their garlic bread trying to pour cold water down the spout of Rossi's energy "kettle-izer."

First to sink the boot into Rossi was Steven B Krivit, LENR officionado and  author of the New Energy Times Blog.  Krivit traveled to Italy a few weeks ago to see what all the fuss was about for himself.  Rossi (back in January) had agreed to showing him a demonstration of the e-cat in action and to answering some of his questions.

While there, Krivit made some videos showing the e-cat operating and even had some brief time to interview Rossi and the other members of the e-cat team. The videos of the latter have yet to be published.

Krivit's latest report which can be found here doesn't seem to have much in the way of science behind it. Instead, it reads a lot like a charcater assasination, dragging up everything from Rossi's previous misdeeds with Petroldragon to questioning whether he's a qualified engineer. (Rumor also has it that he may even have faked his bronze swimming certificate.)
 

Needless to say, exchanging Christmas cards is now off the table for both parties.

 
It is true that Rossi is no saint - to which he readily admits. He has a colourful past that he'd perhaps rather forget, but then again so does the current Pope. Past performance is no guarantee of future outcomes - as my Enron Hedge Fund Manager used to tell me - (god rest his soul).

In Krivit's defence though, he got off his arse and traveled a long way with what seemed like good intentions (the truth) - only to be shown the exit door after barely having time to slurp the foam off his Caffè latte; To top it all off, Rossi called him a "snake" after reading his first summary report. And as any good journalist will tell you, being called a "snake" by someone never ends well with fluffy endorsements of your technology and pictures in Hello magazine.

In round 2 of this week's Rossi bashing, step forward into the ring Swedish physicist Peter Ekstrom. Ekstrom had previously let his criticisms be known in a specially prepared pdf he put together a few months BC (Before steam Controversy). The steam debacle came from observations of Krivit's video where for about 4 seconds in between camera blur and focus, the steam comes out the end of a long rubber hose attached to the energy catalyzer. Not enough steam!, Should be more steam! -  they cried as the white steam is shown against the hastily improvised black background of someone's t-shirt.  At the end of the day though, and just like the kettle in my kitchen - it appears that a watched ecatalyzer never boils. Perhaps because the hose was supplied by IKEA?

It didn't look like what they thought 5 Kw worth of steam ought to look like, so naturally they concluded that Rossi's figures of the power output must be wrong - 2 orders of magnitude less if you believe Krivit's report. Not even enough steam to iron one pair of Action Man's underpants.

As well as Ekstrom, other Flat-Earthers have surfaced this week to join in the Rossi bashing, but they are decidedly less memorable for their armchair assesments and provide even less credible evidence in order to take them seriously.

So what's the actual science behind the steam controversy? Not much it would appear.

The whole thing (including Ekstron's latest criticism) is loosely based on the observations made by "experts" going goggle-eyed watching Krivit's video. Now that's 21st century science in action! I hadn't realised that YouTube videos were peer review worthy finely tuned measurement devices of the scientific establishment.

If someone had asked me to measure the amount of steam being produced by the e-catalyzer I would have probably recommended that they attach a flow meter or some other suitable electronic gadget costing an arm and a leg. Thanks to those "experts" though, I have been educated. I now know that the power of eyeballs is sufficient (Hi Def and 3D glasses of course).

So this morning I nearly tripped over the cat while rushing down to brekky - so desperate I was to try out my new skill that up until yesterday, I didn't even know I had. I relaxed my breathing like a master Yogi, standing there (and measuring the flow rate through bleary eyes) I witnessed the kettle produce a whopping 1.2472 Kw worth of steam. How do I know this? Well, I stared at the spout while cleverly buttering the kitchen worktop. Who says I can't multitask?

But in all seriousness, these are the same critics who chastise Rossi for his lack of information, and the strongest arguments they have right now seem to be either questioning Rossi's past or basing "scientific" proclamations on the newly invented peer-reviewed method of steam guesstimation technology.

Speechless I am (as Yoda would say).
