Cold Fusion Stigma Still Exists

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

After all this time it's a bit infantile to see that there is still a stigma around the use of the term cold fusion. Did the Pons and Fleischmann excperience really scar everyone so badly?

"Serious" researchers now opt for the term LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions), or CALENR (Chemically Assisted Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) and variations thereof.

Top prize though in the "Avoid using cold fusion terminology awards." simply must to go to National Instruments who've went one better than everyone with the ever so cautious and conservative label - "Anomalous Heat Generation" seen in their latest slide show presentation.

Brilliant.

Official National Instruments Response

Saturday, November 12, 2011

We withdrew the last post on National Instruments buying the 1MW plant due to it's   speculative nature.

Later this morning I rang National Instruments to get some clarification on their position and spoke to a lovely lady called Trisha - NI's Corporate PR Manager.

She has given me an official statement from NI's Vice President of Corporate Marketing and eBusiness.

"There are thousands of researchers and engineers in the world trying to solve alternative energy challenges and National Instruments provides tools to many of these scientists. One example is the Leonardo Corporation who intends to use NI tools for various applications. Specific details are still in development.

The mission of National Instruments is to equip engineers and scientists with tools that accelerate productivity, innovation, and discovery. We apply this mission by working with customers across a variety of industries such as automotive, mobile devices, robotics as well as energy and physics. For example, we have been working closely with many research labs and physics institutions in the areas of control, measurement and diagnostics for nuclear fusion, particle accelerators, synchrotrons and telescopes.  You can find more information about the different projects we are involved in at www.ni.com/physics."

ENDS

Andrea Rossi has made a great choice in asking NI to help design and build the eCat control systems and this is YET ANOTHER VALIDATION that Rossi's eCat technology is the real thing.

The statement from NI is very reassuring.  It confirms that there is the beginnings of a positive relationship between one of the worlds best companies and Andrea Rossi's Leonardo Corporation.

We recieved this comment also from Arun Veeramani
"I am Arun Veeramani, an engineer with the Big Physics team at National Instruments. I just wanted to let everyone know that we did not buy a 1 MW fusion plant.

We believe in empowering thousands of engineers and scientists to solve the engineering grand challenges of today, one of which is energy. Leonardo Corporation intends to use our (NI) commercial-off-the-shelf tools and platforms for various applications. We are still in the process of working out the details.

In our 35 year history, our mission has been to give the right tools to scientist and engineers so that they can continue to innovate and discover. We continue to do this across a wide spectrum of industries such as mobile devices, automobile, semiconductor as well as energy and physics. From ni.com/physics, you will notice that we have been working in the areas of measurement, diagnostics and control for particle accelerators, synchrotrons, nuclear fusion and telescopes."

Maybe we went about it the wrong way, but now at least we have an actual response from the company themselves and a firm denial. We are not sitting around debating the issue for weeks on end. With that in mind, it means we still have a BIG question.

Who DID buy the 1MW plant, and where is it?

Pseudosceptics Disappointed Again

There have been vitriolic outbursts by pseudosceptics in the past 24 hours on the VORTEX-l mailing list, mainly by one or two well-known debunkers.  These debunkers of anything that is considered non-mainstream were hoping that NI would deny that any relationship with Rossi existed.  It seems that they were wrong on this occasion and that this may be the start of a long and interesting relationship.

Pseudosceptics Use Steorn By Association To Attack

By-association attacks are commonly used by debunkers to try and discredit evidence.  This is where they use an unrelated subject matter to try and discredit the current topic under discussion.

Maybe you'd be surprised to know that four of the top eCat blogs right now are owned and operated by current Steorn SKDB members who's interest is not solely confined to magnet motors and solid state systems.  The pseudosceptics are very confused and upset right now , so are lashing out in every possible way to try and discredit this blog in particular using Steorn as an example of this.

Our position on Steorn remains constant.  Steorn have legitimate technologies that present anomalous and unexplainable results.  They are currently working on some very interesting projects and it is not the last you've heard of Steorn.

Something To Think About

How do you design control and monitoring systems for a new kind of fusion plant?  You think you could maybe do it via Skype?  What if you went out to see the plant a couple of times with a notebook and a digital SLR?

Let's get with the program here folks.  Producing complex control and monitoring systems for a new kind of technology that no-one has ever studied before dictates that you have one in your possession. Not only have that but that you know EXACTLY how it works.

So for NI or any other company to achieve this they are going to need one and they are going to have to take it to bits, test it in every conceivable way and understand how it behaves. How can you safely monitor and control something that you don't fully understand?

Is there anyone left that still thinks you don't need to have one in your possession one to produce a control systems for it?
